![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Replacement serrated lockwasher 4 Howell BOV? Ok, I have had a leaky Bob Howell OC/DSV for 6 months now, the o-ring between the main body bottom and the bailout second stage is leaking....so much for positive and negative pressure checks..... I have a complete replacment 0-ring kit from an awfully helpful bloke from teh UK, but that serrated one way stainless washer that grips the cylinder that protrudes up into the main body and holds it in place looks like it needs to be cut out to remove it, hence the need for a replacement, but..... Nobody seemsd to know where to get that exact size serrated one way stainless steel washer... Any direct leads? |

If someone could send me them, and his permission, I'd be happy to host them. In fact Stuart probably would too... I wish I could help with the serrated thing - I have a Bob DSV myself. I'll be watching in interest to see what you come up with. Brent, any chance of doing a full tear-down article on it?

Might even throw in a few drawings for replacement parts too. Brent.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Replacement serrated lockwasher 4 Howell BOV? I think the whole execution of using a serrated stainless steel washer with teeth impinging upon Delrin style of plastic is an inferior way of retaining the round protrusion up into the the upper DSV valve body. The plastic is just too soft to keep a good, consistent tension on the plastic and keeping the o-ring in between the two bodies in a proper compression If I had full access to it all and had 8 octopus arms, maybe I could spring enough of the teeth upwards to remove it and get to that 0-ring underneath without damaging the serrated tooth washer. I think those serrate steel toothed washers are designed to be pushed down once, then cut out and replaced. Bob must have delt with this issue, but nobody seems to know how to get a hold of him...... In retropsect, I don't think any of this needs to swivel at all.....The Cis unit had a fixed horizontally aligned 2nd stage diaphragm and this made the unit more streamlined..... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Replacement serrated lockwasher 4 Howell BOV? As an update, I have determined that the correct name for that style of lock washer is a "metric internal tooth lock washer" When I have a chance I am going to disassemble my Howell OC/DSV and measure with a metric digital caliper the round portion that protrudes up into the upper body and is gripped by the lock washer. Once I get a metric equivalent and washer thickness dimension and approximate tooth count I will start searching the Internet for that size..... What a hassle of a lousy 50 cent washer! |
