Why does the JJ BOV Threads not match the Golem Gear BOV Threads?

I have a bit of a problem that I do not understand.

I purchased a set of JJ BOV screw on couplings that fit the Meg Hoses with the intent of using them to fit my Meg Hoses to a Golem Inspiration BOV (the threaded one). I tried to screw them onto the Golem BOV today and i can get them started but they bind after about one turn. I do not want to force them for fear of cross threading the coupling or the BOV threads. Does anyone know whats up?

My thought being the the JJ BOV allows for the inspiration hoses to be screwed right on the BOV thread just like the Golem BOV for the inspiration. I already know my Golem BOV fits since I used to have it installed on a Inspiration. I was told that the JJ BOV (from a loop hose attachement perspective) is just the JJ BOV for the inspo with the screw on couplings to fit the meg hoses. So I thought if that is the case then they must both have the same thread size or they would not both work with the Inspiration hose couplings.

golem has actually had 3 dfferent threaded bovs.. the original bov and the vario have slightly different size trapezodial threads, plus there is an inspiration compatible thread.

there is the pssibility that one of the threads (the JJ or the golem) are sloihtly out of spec (the both could be) and off on opposite sides so that they are too ar apart.. Golem actually supplies inspiration collars for use with his BOV..

Did you ever try real inpiration hoses on the JJ bov that you have??

Re: Why does the JJ BOV Threads not match the Golem Gear BOV Threads?

About six months ago I ordered some inspo threaded hose nut and nipple sets from Golem for my Golem BOV, one fit and the other didn't. These were for use on the CK.

Jacob remedied the issue very quickly and I was promptly sent the correctly threaded hose nut. There were two different threaded nose nuts, one was inspo and the other I think he said was trapezoid??

I suspect that you have a golem BOV with non inspo threads (maybe the trapezoid??) as what you described is exactly what happened with one of those hose nuts, went on about one and a half turns and stopped.

The Golem BOV was originally purchased a threaded for use on the Inspiration Hoses. Its not the Vario and worked well hooked up directly to the Inspiration hose nuts. Later I purchase two hose adapters to use the same threaded Golem BOV on my Kiss Classic Hoses and they screwed on the BOV just fine and worked well.

When I got the Meg I looked to see if Golem had hose adapters that would allow the threaded Golem BOV to be used with the Meg hoses like the adapters they sell to use it on the Kiss. The Meg hoses are a larger diameter at the ends that attach to the BOV then the Kiss Hoses. Unfortunately, Golem does not make such an adapter. I wish they would since then I can own one BOV and use it on any CCR.

Hence, I thought the adapters that JJ makes for their BOV to fit the Meg would work. But they do not. I have know way of telling what the specific problem is with the threads.

I do not have a JJ BOV only the hose adapters for one to be used on a Meg.

I guess now I will need to sell the JJ Meg adapters and find someone to exchange a Golem Meg BOV for my threaded Golem BOV which can be used on almost any other unit except a Meg.

Unless someone can take the JJ adapters and rethread it for me so that it works on the Golem BOV. I do not have the equipment or knowledge to do this myself.

Thanks Marc but I am reasonably sure that I have the Golem BOV with the threads that work directly on the Inspo hose nuts as that how I used it initially and then later bought two adapters to use it on the Kiss.

I think I am confused as to why the JJ BOV works on the inspo hose nuts but the threads on the Meg adapters for the JJ BOV seem to be different that the threads that teh Golem BOV uses and also work on the inspo hose nuts.

Since I do not have a JJ BOV or an Inspo DSV I cannot confirm if the JJ Meg adapters might have been threaded incorrectly or not.

John,

Any machine shop ought to be able to machine a couple of screw on spools with a face oring that will allow a set of Meg hoses to be clamped on.

Shouldn't be more than one hours work or so.

I will bring it with me when I come up.

Already sent a email to Jan at JJ but no answer. I will give him a couple more days to respond.
