Start with a BOV

With the concern with CO2 hits, I am asking the Rebreather World contributors if BOV's should be allowed during the inital CCR training course?

I had one when I took my Mod 1 on the Pelagian. Who forbids them?

Most certainly for KISS training.

My thoughts are they should be fitted to all Rebreathers as standard equipment!!

What IS the official ISC view on BOVs? Does it think them unnecessary, or actually discourage them? They are not mentioned in the ISC Meg CCR Manual or the ANDI manual or in the Mel Clark 'CCR Trimix Simplified'. I'd read somewhere that Leon was agin them, though I can't find where I'd read it...

If the unit is equipped with it, it will be used during class.
Probably not exclusively, but it'll be part of it.
Otherwise you wouldn't be learning that particular unit,
and unit specific courses would not be needed.

Not sure if you're just trying to be funny. IF you have a BOV then your first response will be different. Iso open loop or faffing with a regulator you'll just turn the knob, think and then go back or go OC. So it does matter in terms of what you need to do and hence how you need to be trained.
It doesn't make sense to make open loop a second nature when you have a BOV. If you want to embed that response in your cerebral cortex then you'll need to train and train and train and envision doing it when driving to work and train and train... you'll get the picture. It's different.

Re: Start with a BOV

I think that manufactures are being pulled by the users to consider it, at least, as an option. So I hope that in a near future there will be more bovs in the market.
