I refer the linked BOV plumbinghttp://www.rebreatherworld.com/bail-...tml#post136402 You can bail to offboard. If you're bailing to hypoxic gas, then I would have filled the onboard with a mix containing some 50% O2, and when reaching 20m or so, I would 1) simply open the onboard tank valve and BOV now connected to safe gas. or 2) QC a safe gas to the offboard inlet All offboards would have 2nd stages. IMV there should be no dependance on the BOV, thus making it extra gear and complication. However, the extra gear/complication is justified . |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: BOV Use Poll I'm going to go against the grain here. While I use a BOV on my Sport Kiss, I don't use one, or plan to use one on my Mk 15.5. Having the additional low pressure hose routed along one side, the drag from a larger BOV, plus the added failure-point, makes it not worthwhile for me. I know that people will say that if I'd had a serious CO2 hit that I'd think differently, however; I am constantly asking myself if my breathing rate is in proportion to my workload or if I am having any other symptoms of high CO2. I feel that if I am aware of these things, then I can deal with the situation before it is a problem. I also dive enough that I think I am fairly well in tune with my unit, so I tend to notice when somthing is beginning to feel "off". Furthermore, on most units, you can essentially go OC by exhaling every breath from your nose. This will provide fresh breath nearly as quickly as turning a knob on a BOV without the need to do anything else. I tend to do this peroidically anyway if I am working hard to be sure that my CO2 levels are not rising. I'll now duck for cover ![]() Aloha, Charlie

| In my own little world ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: BOV Use Poll i would never dive with out a bov, i had done for many years, but after home building, i spent the money on a nemotec bag o shit, that failed on the first dive, as we were testing a new po2 gauge that then failed!! when it goes wrong it goes wrong. charlie although i had one fail through bad design to me it is still one of your best defences against CO2 and i have no doubt it would have saved my friend that thought the way you do about co2, we designed a bov a few years back which i think we will produce in the future and i think the apd bov is a good step in the right direction for there unit. kind regards john routley
