There is no valves seat in Xstream.

Re: Poseidon Xtreme on BOV??

Hi Paul ... we have never had this problem with Vipers, we use them for O2 regs on the units as well as bail out regs on slings. In fact the only problem we have had with them is the golf ball cover can get knocked off once in a blue moon. Other wise they have been great.

I have only one Xtream, a Dive model, and the bad feature is the purge. It flows a huge amount of gas when you purge it. If your'e not prepared it can literally blow the second stage out of your mouth.

Re: Poseidon Xtreme on BOV??

Hi,

The failer was on the first stage, to be more precise it was the diaphram that went bang.

I had a long look at it and decided it was a bit of stupid design. If you take it apart there is a ruberised cloth diaphram, behind that a metal cup. What happens is, you get a bit of corrosion on the metal cup which creates a sharp edge which wears into the diaphram. Turn them on and they go bang, don't half make you jump. I got to the point where I always carried a spare, and was nervous each time I turned them on. In the end I used to srip the first stage after every dive and dry the metal cup by hand, not something I want to go back to.

Paul, don't do it. Yes they are small and very light weight, but aside from the fact that nothing breaths as nicely except a very well tuned Apeks DST and XTX50 they are pants. And the Apeks works 99.999999999999999999% of the time.

The other big problem is in the second stage, the purge actuation is done by a very flimsy bit of metal which bends very easily and makes the reg free flow all the time.

They are great regs. but just not robust enough to be used in a unit like the rEvo. Aside from the fact that it is very nice to dive, the thing I most love about the unit is the fact that it is pretty much bullet proof. If you make a BOV using the XStream, sorry, but I won't buy one.

There are several nice small and good regs out there all of them without the Poseidon design issues.

Take care,

Andrew

Re: Poseidon Xtreme on BOV??

I've no experience with Xtreme, but I've some with (all sort of) Pos' !
Generally, Poseidon products need :
- specials hoses to be fited
- specials tools to be serviced
- many money to buy regs and parts
- time to find parts
- chance to use it without problem

the idee is using only the second stage, and eventually only the internal part:
meaning:
using standard hose (we make the adaptor part to standard hose)
second stage: no special tools
... conc chance to use without problem... don't know: to see

the fact that the internal system uses a 'control valve' to open the main valve, makes that you can let it run perfect with a very small membrane.

Re: Poseidon Xtreme on BOV??

Hi,

You know, I had a look and I was talking rubbish. The only one that I found that appraches the XStream was the AquaLung Kronos.

Hmmm. I still would be very nervous of a piece of kit that was based on an XStream.
