Re: Poseidon Xtreme on BOV??

Andyp had Extreems when they first came out and he loved them. Unfortunatly they kept exploding on gas up so he binned the lot.

From what i read above I asume the valve seat fault was fixed in later modles but it put me right off. I witnesed two of them go bang and fail one had just come back from repair.

Hi Baz, I think I used them some time ago, but more then once, due to juming in the water, the exhaust valve bent inwards, stuck behind one of the 4 little plastic things in the spider, and stayed 'stuck open'

?? never had that problem??

What do you mean bow up?? if you mean a rush of gas from the second upon opening the valve thats normal as the design uses a pilot valve and it needs gas to set.. if you put you hand over the mouthpiece when opening the valve the pressure equalizers rapidly and there is very little gas flow, open to the atmosphere it takes a second or 2 to seat.. All regs of this design have to work this way..

No I meen BANG forlowed by a total loss of gas through the second stage as the valve seat failed.

Mark
meaning it was a failure of the second stage, not the first stage?

doent make sense to me.. the poseidon is an upstrem valve.. high pressure sets the seat firmly, a valewould just leak it shouldnt have any catrostrophic release of gas unlese the seat was blocked open by debris.. I have seen it seal perfectly with a severely deformed valve.. these hoses have an opv so that a 1st stage failure will allow gas to be released...

the ony poseidon 2nds I have seen any problem with were the 2nds immediatley before the xtreme (after the jetstream and cyclon)... can't rememebr the name offhand.. they were a bitch to service and many people damaged them...

Poseidons are like Marmite, you either Love 'em or Hate 'em

I think alot of people have been put off by the constant fiddling some users have to do to keep them from free-flowing and the expensive service, lastly some people find the gas delivery alittle offensive.

Probably a rep they don't deserve?

I hate Marmite, but love Poseidon Jetstreams. You're right, like the YBOD, they have a reputation they don't deserve.

Cheers,
