Re: To BOV or not BOV - Split From NACD Cave Summit

Photos of the rEvo dual HUD on my BOV.... this is one for a KISS BOV. It's just a piece of PVC rod, bored to slightly smaller diameter than the exterior of the BOV hose fitting, with about 1/4 then cut away. It 'snaps' over the BOV fitting and can be rotated to adjust. I cut a slot on the top to hold the original bracket... but at an angle to direct the HUD towards my mask. It's bulletproof and simple. Paul's original is similar, sans the angle of the cut.

These can be made in a few minutes for any BOV.

It sits square on the fitting... it was pulled slightly to the side when I took the photos.

I put the two small screws in it to allow me to add a small rubber band to increase tension, but in the end they are not needed.

I found that the original HUD mount had the LED's firing straight back, and the left most LED's were had to see due to the shade-hood. The angling of the displays towards the mask completely solves that. Everyone who has seen it considers it to be an improvement (and yes, Paul has seen it too....)

Hi stephane,

where is the picture of the double HUD ?
A BOV is quite expensive so I prefer to have as many information as possible in order to make a good choice.

Salut Bruno,

I will do it tonight.

Hi guys, it is not so a big deal: it mostly depends on the type of mask you use!
if you don't see the right hud good, the simple trick is this: just bend the hudmount a bit ( BUT DON'T DO IT WHILE FIXED ON THE CLIP OR THE HUD'S: YOU WILL BREAK OUT THE CREWS!!)
(and after: don't over tight the screws, it's plastic you know! :-)

see how to do it:

Re: To BOV or not BOV - Split From NACD Cave Summit

Quite so Paul! But if given a chance to use lathe and milling machine for an hour... or pliers for a few seconds... well, when you have a milling machine, everything needs to be milled...

Really, this was only done becase I needed to make a larger diameter 'clip'. Bending the bracket works just fine if you use the original clip. And that clip fits many other hoses and BOV's...just not the KISS one.

In any case, either using the original clip or replacing it with one like mine is all the solution that needs to be done. The clip method works better than any of the screwed-on versions as well, as it can be taken off for washing, etc. I'd use it on any HUD/DSV combination. Looks like I'll be making another tomorrow.... Mark-15 with new HH and HUD is going to be on the bench tomorrow. Hurrah!

Re: To BOV or not BOV - Split From NACD Cave Summit

Here is the photo of the rEvo's dual HUD mounted on a GolemGear BOV:

I have put an original Ray DSV with a clip mounted to show the difference. The metal support is made of two parts.

Re: To BOV or not BOV - Split From NACD Cave Summit

This is a great discussion, I'd like to quantify the overall sentiment of divers towards the BOVs so I created the poll here:
http://www.rebreatherworld.com/bail-...-use-poll.html

I also created another poll on use of bailout for OOA buddy, also a great question posed by Jill Heinerth at the NACD Cave CCR Summit
http://www.rebreatherworld.com/rebre...ut-bottle.html

Thanks,

Hello Marv,

Offboard of course! From a S80 or a 12l carbone cylinder, the hose is equipped with a QC6 connector so I can change the gas source underwater.
