Smile Hammerhead HUD Mounts for Golem BOV

After I got my Golem BOV (which is great) installed on my Optima, this caused the positioning of the HUD to move to where I was concerned I would not pay attention to it. So, I started looking around for a HUD mount that would be compatible with my BOV.

After getting a recommendation from another Rebreather World member, I purchased a Divematics DIVA mount, and I tried mounting my HUD on that. While this locates the HUD to the correct position, my only issue with the DIVA mount is that the HUD often becomes displaced when I move my loop hoses over my head in order to put on my unit during boat dives. This is because the mounting system depends, in part, upon an o-ring to keep it attached to the loop hose connectors where they attach to the BOV. It is not easy or fun to try to move the o-ring back into place after already having put on my gloves.

Next, I began corresponding with Jakub at Golem Gear to see if he could offer any input concerning this issue. Within a few weeks, my Golem HUD mount arrived, and I put it on my unit. This weekend, I got to dive my unit with the HUD mount on it for the first time, and I will say that I am quite pleased. Jakub modified a connector by adding a track to it so that the mount clips into place solidly. On the other hand, removing it is fast and easy. It is the best of both worlds: permanent but easily removed.

If anyone else is having issues with their Hammerhad HUD after installing the Golem BOV, I suggest you consider this piece of enhancement for your unit.

Re: Hammerhead HUD Mounts for Golem BOV

That sounds good, Jakub, can you make a HUD holder that the Shearwater HUD will fit onto for the Golem BOV?

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Re: Hammerhead HUD Mounts for Golem BOV

Unfortunately, I only have a low end camera phone. I checked the Golem web site, and it is not up there yet. I'll see if I can come up with something.

I have my HH HUD mounted on my Golem BOV via a Divematics mount and it has always worked great...

I have the same setup now and I am pleased with it except for the problem Howard mentioned. If you push on the DIVA the Divematics mount rotates. Happens when I put the loop over my head when gearing up or when pinching my nose to clear my ears. I was considering placing a locking screw thru the mount into the hose locking nut to secure it but will take a look at the Golem solution first.

You just need a tighter o-ring to secure it... Mine does not rotate easily.

Re: Hammerhead HUD Mounts for Golem BOV

Stretch a ring of inner tube over the Golum house end mount then put the clamp ring over that.

The little teeth on the clamp ring are designed to fit the inspo hose not the knurled face of the Golum so the rubber cover gives them something to grip.

Then use a more appropriate 0 ring to hold it all together.

Mind you if there is a better mount on offer for the Shearwater i am game as I am a kit hore
