Now they have fixed the neg test problem I'd go for the V4tec if i were buying another one.

That's interesting, why would you go for the V4tec over the Golum one.

Cheers

Chasey the kit smasher strikes again.

I have had a few minor problems with the Golum. It leeks gas occasionally on neg tests and sometimes jams and you need to suck blow hard on the diaphragm to fix it. It cracks big time then starts to work. Occasionally it jams and free flows if not in the mouth. Its not a cleaning issue or a damaged diaphragm as obviously i have checked these things. I expect it to happen now so I remember to turn the off board gas off when not in the water and I give it a hefty suck blow before every dive to make sure its all OK.

Once in the water it seems fine and i check it three or four times during every dive. Its more of an annoyance than anything else but all I can say is the V4tec was faultless. The breath on the Golum is not quite as good as the V4tec. That said, i dare not tune it up as this could make the free flow thing worse. I am sure if i could fix the cracking issue i could tune it up a bit better.

I am sure they could sort it all out if i sent it back, but as with all these things, I cant find the time in my busy diving schedule as I expect to be without it for a few weeks. I was going to swap to a a new diaphragm to see if that fixes it but its an odd bellows type thing so I can't use my normal Apex kits to do this and will have to send off for one.

Mark,

How often do you dive ?

I asked because it amazed me how it seems that you have managed to break every bit of dive kits you own in the relative short timeframe that you owned them...

I am just an average diver who does a trimix dive every week-end consistently for a long time now, and I don't break 1/2 the amount that you do...

Its not so much I broke it as it never worked properly from day one.

I think i am just open and honest about kit issues. It may surprise you to learn that apart from a loss of a line pixels on one, both my VR3s were faultless throughout their life. All around me people had VR3 problems and my two just kept on working. I did 170 hour on a Classic inspo before it failed for the first time.

Oh and about 50-60 mix dives a year and another 20-40 shallow dives. (depending on the weather). This year probably 50ish all in as the weather has been crap .

Re: BOV for Meg

Mark,

You have one of the first BOVs with a stock spring. We are putting a stronger spring in them now to prevent free flow. I can sedn you one if you want. The diapraghm is a standard Interspiro, you can get it from them or from us
Golem Gear, Inc. - Diaphragm for 2nd Stage Regulator on Golem BOV

Thanks for your feedback,

Thats vey kind of you Jakub thank you.

Ill PM you my details again.

I should have sorted this out ages ago but I was going to wait for the winter lul as I got the Golum at the start of my buisy time for the year. It would be great if this is the cure as it means i don't have to ship it back.

Bloody hell $135 for a diaghpragm?? Ill try the spring first

Interspiro is really proud of their diaghpragms
Maybe you can find it cheaper on your side of the pond.
