Re: BOV Quick Disconnect - Ocean Reef

it sure would have been nice for the original scuba LPI to have enough flow to drive a regulator, wonder how hard it would be to get the whole industry to switch over for every application.

The original fitting was, get this: A Hansen fitting as used on the top of the US Navy Mark-VI "Emerson Lung" 02 rebreather. It's the same fitting as we now use on BC inflators. The original has a locking collar that you can twist and which prevents the coupling from being removed until unlocked. But once it's unlocked, it is the same old "pull to disconnect" fitting with the same size and dimensions as the standard BC fitting we all (love/hate). Seapro made the first commercial BC with that fitting, and it's been that way since. Just the way the "first guy" did it, and the way it still is.

Now that is a thing we have done a few times. Sometimes a BCD-longhose would have been nice...

I don't get it why some guys use tiny suitbottles for multiple dives...

Yes, I know the CEJN has a bigger area thus better flow. But for ADV or shallow OC-breathing (O2) the std BCD-fitting works fine.

The trouble is I and most of my buddies have standardized on the (inferior) std BCD-fitting.

Deeper down the std BCD-fitting is probably limiting OC-flow (I tried it at 45 m on 21/35, not good).

I recently got a Divematics BOV so now I think I have to make the switch to the (better) CEJN for everything....to be able to disconnect, use any hose and breath from it deeper. The hard thing is to make my buddies do the same....

One concern about using the same connector on everything is keeping track of having the right gas plugged in. Normally no issue, but it would not be so nice to plug in that air filled (or worse) suit bottle to the ADV and the mix to the suit...

Since I mostly use a sling-Rebreather I sometimes plug in the dil in water, there is the risk of taking the wrong hose if I happened to forgot to pug in something. else.

I make my own hoses and color code them all: Green = 02, Blue = Normoxic Diluent, Yellow = Hypoxic Diluent, Black = "utility" such as suit gas.

If not color coded hoses, use color coded hose protectors at the QD end.

Just an idea...

Re: BOV Quick Disconnect - Ocean Reef

Now, if I could only find 2nd stage hose to CEJN coupling adapters, ala standard 2nd stage hose to LPI coupling adaptor here.

That way, you would not have to buy a bunch of specific hoses. Have one hose type, and then adapters depending on your location and who your buddy is. That way if your buddies are carrying bailout with different connectors, you won't die because you standardized on something else. Plus, for traveling, can leave a bunch of hoses at home and just bring the adapters.

The problem seems to be that NOT all "standard BC fittings" are that standard. A lot of times a hose of one brand won´t fit a male conector of an other brand and some times the fit only by a little bit of violence.

How about if we, at this comunity, start our own standad and go for CEIJN all the way? I´m in!

I think I got one of those with CEIJN as well, I will try to find it and get a picture of it.

Re: BOV Quick Disconnect - Ocean Reef

Would this possibly be the fitting?

Does anyone know if the Zeagle octo or Seaquest Air source have the CEJN fitting?

Re: BOV Quick Disconnect - Ocean Reef

They are the same fitting! I just cleaned out Northeast Scuba Supply of their stock. I would rather go with them first before Leisure Pro.
