Auuuugggghhhhh!!!!!!!

Probably a homebuilder thread but....... I have a second stage reg. hooked to my counterlung acting as an ADV. When enough negative pressure is created, the reg. fires, replacing loop volume ON DRY LAND. When I put that sucker in the water and decend 1 foot, the regulator starts freeflowing. The exhaust ports are of course blocked. Why does she freeflow? How do I fix it? And no, my instructor did not cover this in HOMEBUILD MOD 1. As stated earlier, probably a homebuilder thread, but I'm casting my nets wide.... The reg is an unbalanced downstream piston, which might be my answer..... Please help.
