The pictures are of my friend's unit whose LCD died. SDS told him that it would be $1700 for repair or $5000 for Vision electronics. My buddy has been in the electronics repair field for many years and he decided to take a chance on repairing them himself. He replaced both of his LCDs with OLEDs and I think they look great. He said it was a real pain because the electronics are fully potted in clear compound. He said that he never wanted to do that again, but I think I could convince him. I have done the repair and it is a real pain to do with the possibility of killing the electronics, but at this point SDS isn't giving people too many options, and the trade in for working or non-working units isn't that different from what I hear. I really don't think that SDS would take the trouble to unpot and repot the electronics. I think that it would probably make more sense for them to sell you another set. I wanted to find out how many people had this problem and if it would be worthwhile to repair them. The OLED uses much less power than the LCD with the backlight (about 30ma for the OLED, depending on the number of characters illuminated, my measurements of the running current for the electronics without the display was about 20ma) Carl
