In defense of the engineering company who machined the parts. I recall taking with them last year about the poor choice of material.

The material chosen by them and used in production is well known to be prone to dimentional instability and stress concentrations due to loading imbalance and to stress cracking in salt water.
It would be of great interest if as you say that 1mm is within tolerance what they suggest is the maximum allowable tolerance allowed. I trust you get this in writing.
