Given my level of experience I feel that when practicing emergency ascents 'off the loop' that a pulldump would make the control of the unit a little easier, as opposed to having to open and close the loop to vent gas, and with the BOV fitted, that is not really an ideal option. If in 'the real world' I have come off the loop it is likely that the task loading would have increased..why is the OPV fitted to the bottom of the lung?
I am sure I will probably feel differently once my experience level increases.

out of curosity, who was your instructor?
the OPV is on the bottom of the lung so you can flush water out of it that may get in via the loop falling out of your mouth (or getting kicked out, which is more likely). were you not taught that skill?
if you have to ascend off the loop, you occasionally roll right so it vents, just like a normal ascent.
a pull dump high is an invitation for all sorts of crap to get stuck in it, like cave silt, rust flakes etc.
