You could do this transition by switching on the onboard gas and breathing that for the time it takes to hook up the new offboard, saves deploying the stowed reg! Although the male end of the GCS (connected to the manifold) would be pressurised (or perhaps not if the one way valves are used) the female end would not be, and that's the one that needs to be depressurised to allow easy connection...
