They come in handy when you don the unit the wrong way. 
Just kidding. The Ouroboros "buddy display" allows the dive buddy or a safety diver (e.g. when filming) to monitor the status of the system.
The Cis-Lunar MK-5p also has LED lights on the top of the case for remote monitoring by another diver.
