| Re: ADM / NSSCDS Rebreather Review and Experience Course My girlfriend and I signed up for this rebreather experience as late as last Wednesday evening because of possible work schedule issues on my side of life. We signed up at the ADM site and called Ginnie Springs and everything was good and set. We spent ALL day Saturday driving in from Lousiana. Saturday afternoon we called Ginnie Springs and re-confirmed that the review would be held there, to which the young lady on the other end replied that she knew of the review, but was unsure of a meeting area, but suggested that their upstairs classroom would be the most likely meeting place. Sunday morning we arrived at Ginnie Springs and we were met with cluelessness and shoulder shrugging. To add insult to injury, one the young ladies at the front desk asked a supervisor what the deal was, and the reply was, that this event had taken place 3 weeks earlier. Now I know how dive plans change because of weather and other variables, but I know that ISC, APD/SDS, Jetsam Technologies and Dive Rite did not ALL back out of this at the last minute. In fact, Jetsam Tech still has the advertisement on their front web page stating they would be there on May 28, 2006
As said by cave and tech divers (which I am not qualified yet, but I have read enough material to be familiar with it), there is an (un)spoken rule that any diver can bow out of the dive if one is not up to the dive and a diver can call the dive while in the water for any reason, or no reason at all, without ridicule or harrassment or loss of respect. The two things the diver has to have is #1) balls and #2) personal integrity in order to stand and say "hey guys, I do not want to be apart of this one..."
I checked, double checked, and triple checked my info and it all matched up. I had no reason to believe otherwise. Based on this information, I made a choice to fore-go a family outting, a veterans ceremony, and passed up my regular dive site by 3.5 hrs to do this. When I got to the other side of the country, I don't think it would have been too much to expect a decent answer of some sort as to what the real situation was.
The question I have now is, what really happened? If this event was cancelled earlier than last week, why were the advertisements not pulled, or at least, blocked from signing divers up for something that wasn't going to happen and notify them of the current situation?
I hope I don't come off as too much of an asshole, but I hope my aggrevation can be understood on this matter. It would be nice to hear some answers from ADM, Ginnie Springs and these companies that were suppose to be there this weekend, as there names were all attached to this situation. I've chaulked this one up already. Maybe next time, ALL of us can get it right and listen to the silence...
