Re: Diving at pH10

Hmm

pH 10 is not that aggressive, only 1000 times more caustic than neutral water.

Remember that the water that can sometimes find its way out of the scrubber is more like pH 14. That is very caustic, about 10 million times more caustic than pure water.

I would _guess_ that your gear would be fine if you hose and bath it carefully after the dive.

For personal protection, try to see if the locals swim in it or not?
If they do, then there should be no problems. If they don't, well then I would not dive there, unless maybe with a drysuit, drygloves and a FFM. And keeping the depht shallow so one could get out fast if the FFM goes bad.

I remember a discussion a few years ago when some dude was hesitating about diving in a lake with pH 4. Lots of folks says that its super acidic and things. But the fact is that its not doing much to the gear and people dive there often. pH 4 is 1000 times more acidic than pure water.

Not that one can compare the relative dangers of an acid lake with a high pH one. A high pH is more damaging to the eyes and probably leaves more residues on the gear if it is not washed away properly.
