Re: Strobs and shot lines

Generally I don't go back to the shot (hey- I already saw that part of the wreck ) but when the skipper insists I rely on navigation not strobes.

Last year in Northern Ireland with 40-50mtr viz people where strobing the shot 10-20mtrs off the bottom quite pointlessly as you could see the upline from almost 60mtrs away!

In the summer I did some gas diving mid-English channel and it was "abit murky" but 8-15mtrs viz, still people put the strobes 5-10mtrs off the bottom, you couldn't see even the fearsome Jotron strobes from the wreck!!!

In my experience very few divers look up, few look even look where they are going.... so if you are going to strobe the shot why not put it max 1mtr above the wreck, that way you can see it when you face the right general direction?

Lastly- Strobes are expendable... never go back to the shot because you have £100 worth of strobes there, seen people get seriously overtime looking for the shot "'cause I wanted my strobe" when bagging off and hoping the skipper hauled the strobe up would have been far more sensible.

Just my humble opinion.

BEN

Strobes are for Airplanes and Discos, divers have torches and brains!
