Yah, I know.

That is actually the only way to really get around it in mass at this point... use humans. But that requires a more targeted bot (you can't have your universal - do_blog_spam_bot). Now you need one that works for a specific site or blog engine.

If the web server hosting the blog is setup right, the bot will have to download the image to its own server (not just link it from your server - You can accomplish this by restricing the referer that is allowed for the image generating script in apache).

Just a thought. Sometimes little barriers have a big effect on a bots and other automated systems. Most of the time, the bot authors just search for easier targets rather than adapt their bots to every sites specific quirks.

In any case, it stopped the problem on my blogger.com account without any manual moderation.
