A recent trip to the Red Sea and diving with a German Hyperbaric Doctor led me to realise how I was dicing with danger diving deep and being a heavy smoker (must admit to being the kind of guy that would spark up after a long deep dive as soon as I got my wetsuit off!). Under the Doctors advice I went to my GP and was prescribed Zyban which is absolutely fantastic - no cravings and smoke-free for the last month. The only problem is that I can't fit into my wetsuit any more due to putting in the pounds!
So who still smokes, who'se given up and what thoughts do people have about smoking and diving in general?
I only smoke cigars (on surface) for the therapeutic value, as I see it my lungs are working hard to breathe and that much work must be worth some credit of aerobic activity. To combat any ill effects I drink red wine, works so far…hh! Hack! Hhh! DT
