I'd have to vote for "don't do the course" also - at least until you can afford the rebreather, or until you're reasonably close to being able to afford a rebreather. Otherwise, you'll probably just be suffering waiting until you can afford a unit and you'll have the added expense of the refresher course which will further delay the date.

If you really can't wait to try - find a shop that has a rebreather experience course. If you're a real salesman, you may be able to talk them down on a promise that if you do get a rebreather, you'll go through them for the training. This assumes of course that you have a shop that rents rebreathers reasonably close.
