On the subject of the "right tools for the right jobs" I have to admit that I have just ordered an Ouroboros as "My First Rebreather".

I HAVE done a number of dives on a Drager and the Inspiration/Evolution community here in the Netherlands is quite strong BUT I also have to admit that I have no intention of pushing the limits of what this rebreather can potentially do for quite some time (if ever - given the kind of diving that the people behind it and those on this list seem to consider normal).

Am I crazy? Quite possibly, but I've convinced myself that my reasoning is sound. It goes something like this:
1) This could be "the last suit I'll ever wear". In 16 years of diving I've made lots of kit changes (always referred to as upgrades - some more than others) but at over 40 years of age I'm not sure I have the opportunity to train, build up experience on and expose the limitations (against my needs) of a series of rebreathers - maybe you younger divers can
2) My partner looks on my safety as VERY important and wants me around to see our twins grow up - I have no argument with this and it has the advantage that I could "justify" the cost over the Inspiration/Evolution
3) I can afford it now - maybe later on things will change
4) My diving is a little slow at the moment - so I can take time to learn to use a complex piece of kit without feeling I'm losing out on too many dives
5) All my diving life I've bought kit that can do more than I need it to (50m rated regs when my diving was limited to 20m) so buying excess, but potentially useful, capability isn't new.
6) My job description boils down to "rocket scientist" and I couldn't resist all those redundant features, fancy pipework and other bells and buzzers (OK it's not a good reason)
7) I wanted to train with an instructor I know and trust and (without being derogatory to others) Phil S meets the requirements.

Am I concerned I've wasted money? yes but we all buy things with features/functions we never use (cars, digital cameras, DVD-recorders the list is endless) and maybe this will turn out to be another.

IF it does keep your eyes on the Rebreathers for Sale section!!
