A new Meg in NYC

Hello everyone. I just purchased two megs used in the movie The Cave. I was certified as an Inspiration/Evolution diver in April of '05 and did a crossover with Jill Heinerth in January.

My unit is down in the Dominican Republic and I have about 10 dives on it. As the Technical Training Director of a new 5 Star TDI Facility called Pirate's Cove Dive Resort & Spa, I get to go down to DR all the time. I'll be down there in April and again for our rebreather week from April 25 - May 1.

As you see I'm really from NYC and I crew on the John Jack out of Staten Island. My meg will be up here for the entire season. I'm hoping to get enough dives on the meg to eventually start using it for deeper local dives - Doria, Norness, U-Who, Carolina etc.

As a NE Wrecker, the first thing I did was modify the rig. I hated diving with HP 100s or LP95s in the old days so I purchased longer HP120s. My ass must be on the dressing table with my tanks firmly sitting on the table as well. I'm tired of getting thrown off the table in high seas while leaning back with short tanks. The meg canister is too short so I added an extention tube. See photo.

The tube was OK but I needed something that could support the meg on its own. I wanted to let it stand proundly in rough seas. I also wanted a place to attach lift bags, argon bottle and other accessories. My buddy, Tom, designed the Stainless Steel Meg Rack. See photos.

I dove with both adaptors in DR and found them a little butt heavy. We are making an aluminum version for warm water. I'm sure the stainless will be great for NE waters. I'll keep you posted . . .
