| Re: Should I sell my KISS and buy a Meg? I was a CK diver for three years and still rate it as the best value form money CCR out there. In the end I moved to a Meg as I felt it was more appropriate to the increasingly deeper, more aggressive diving I was doing. It was a tough call, I had dived the CK to 100+m on several occasions and done some pretty aggressive wreck penetration work (and others have pushed even further) and was very happy with it in general, but in the end it was starting to suffer from hard use and a few less than optimal design features. I also wanted closer SP control. The final deciding factor was getting a slug of water when upending inside a wreck, there wasn’t a lot of water but I nearly drowned due to choking. The absence of baffles in the loop make this more of potential hazard on the KISS. Now that I have dived the Meg for a year (~130 hours) I know it was the right choice (for the diving I do) but if my diving was a tad less demanding I would question the decision given the extra cost. Let me set one myth straight though …. I believe the Meg is actually the most simple to use when you consider setup, calibration, dive protocol, travel and maintenance as whole. I spend appreciably less time frigging with the Meg than the CK (and I had a lot less hassle with displays than most) both out of and in the water. For a truly ‘KISS’ diving experience I doubt you can beat the Meg (ask people who have a Meg who have had other units and I think you will find they say the same). It just never misses a beat, holds calibration and is as strong as an Ox. As has already been said by others it depends on how you use your unit, but if you do a lot of diving, especially if it is of a more demanding variety or in a hostile environment, and if you truly want ‘plug and play’ simplicity, the Meg is the tool of choice. I can highly recommend Soo Seng in Bandos to anyone you wants to get a tan while doing their Meg certification! Regards, Fred |
