| Hi from RI Hi there!
After being a user for a little while I finally find some time to write a few lines and introduce myself.
I am from Germany, started diving age 14 in 1988, now you can calculate how old I am now. Most of my diving is in cold water, my absolute favourite is going under ice. I don't mind warm water though, have been to the standard dive spots e.g. Red Sea, Bahamas, Florida etc. and some more remote places like Easter Island and Ascension Island.
I started with RBs about 4 years ago in Germany, of course on the Draeger stuff. That was sort of OK, but I knew there has to be more.....The Inspo was available but not to a PhD student with an abysmal salary. So I bought an AKA 60 and started modifying it. This is what I am currently using, a 2 mix AKA 60 with build-in gas switch and the possibility to cut the Rebreather from the gas but still having both cylinders available as bailout on a single regulator. I also kicked out the russian cylinders (they went back to Dave Sutton for some FrankenX Project), was too much of a hassle to get them filled anywhere in Germany....they can be so anal about hydros etc.....now it is all nice and DIN and I even have a German TUEV on the cylinders (but not DOT).
Anyways, the next project is a mCCR, very small and lightweight. I found the units on the market still to be too heavy and bulky for traveling. Let's see how much I can get the weight and size down without loosing too much stability.
Since Jan 2005 I live in Rhode Island, diving here is OK, but I have too little time to really explore the area. Perhaps this year will be better, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Cheers
