| rebreather week planned Scuba Diving International (SDI) and Technical Diving International (TDI) are pleased to announce that Pirate's Cove Dive Center in the Dominican Republic has achieved the prestigious rating as a 5-Star SDI/TDI Instructor Training Center. The first facility in the region to receive this honor, Pirate's Cove Dive Center is quickly becoming the standard for diving services on the Dominican Republic.
According to David Burroughs, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SDI and TDI, “There is tremendous potential for the diving industry in the Dominican Republic. Quality dive sites, exceptional facilities and a commitment by the local dive industry to provide memorable experiences make this one of the up and coming destinations in the world. Pirate's Cove Dive Center is striving to break new ground by providing the most comprehensive training, equipment and programs not only on the island but in the surrounding regions.”
With a vast array of training options, Pirate's Cove Dive Center has a full staff of qualified training professionals. Jeff Schwartz, Director of Technical Training at the facility is also an SDI/TDI Instructor Trainer. Together with the team at the Center, Schwartz sees the potential for recreational divers, technical divers and even local divers wanting a quality site for open water certification dives.
“Our goal is to make Pirate's Cove Dive Center one of the premiere dive centers in the Caribbean. There is vast potential and we’ve just gotten started. We are creating programs that make it simple and easy for dive stores from around the world to come here to complete certifications. There is certainly plenty to see and experience in our local waters,” Schwartz said.
He points out that there are a multitude of diving options including shallow and deep reefs, caves and wrecks for divers of all skill levels to explore and enjoy.
Later this year, the facility will be hosting “Rebreather Week” – a celebration of technical diving that will bring together some of the biggest names in technical diving. The event, which is scheduled for April 25 through May 2, includes opportunities to try different rebreathers, earn advanced certifications and meet diving celebrities John Chatterton and Richie Kohler of “Shadow Divers” fame.
