Re: Do you "Nose breathe" involuntarily?

I naturally breathe through my nose on the surface (and my buddy naturally breathes through this mouth). Like Jim after a few dives you train yourself not to exhale through your nose underwater. It took a conscious effort for me over a couple of dives but it works, if you want it to. Awareness was key.

On OC I probably exhaled through my nose without realizing it. It didn't matter anyway so I never really thought about it. On a rebreather though it was a different story. For me it was simple gas management, when I exhaled through my nose I used more diluent and sometimes needed a fill between dives.

Now I can sit back with the other rebreather divers and watch the OC divers switch tanks (especially in rough seas).
