Your choice of rebreather is like your choice of car in many ways. Personaly I would decide what i needed the unit to do in terms of performance. Then look at what you need the unit to do in terms of logistics.

My personal check list would be...


History of the unit in terms of type of diving carried out depth and reliability

How the above fits in with MY type of diving

Performance of the unit

Reliability of the unit

Accessibility of spairs and repairs

Cost

Transportation

Design


Using the above check list you can find out what you need and passably you will have to compromise.

I don't think its relevant what unit you take your first training course on whats relevant is the unit does what you need it to do.
