Hi I was there too and had a go. It was Paul Marks unit.

I think if I understood correctly, that the unit has two separate computers that send info on the cells to one hand set. You can switch between computers mid dive if one is playing up. The unit also self calculates a dill flush based on the diluents input into the hand set which I thought was pretty cool. The scrubber had just over 3 hours on it in shallow water and was showing about 50% on the scale.

I have to say the unit swam beautifully. The trim weights and weight pouches seemed exactly right with 10Kg and despite having to fly the suit (which I don’t do) because I was frightened of using an auto air to control buoyancy, it felt very comfortable in the water. I felt like I was using a small twin set like twin 7s or10s rather than the enormous drag and bulk of the Classic.

The wing only comes in small so I wonder how it will cope with two 10ltr steel bailout tins, and the hand set suffers from being too clever so its going to take a while to master, but all in all I was very very impressed.

The HUD was a bit dim but it was only on brightness setting 6 so it could be turned up. That said I generally find any flash of red quickly grabs the attention but I was not failure enough with the unit to spike the 02 to see what would happen

The large lungs were fine from a breathing perspective and the large harness fit me, which is odd as the Medium on the classic is too big at maximum (small size) adjustment. I am 5' 10" 15 stone 42 chest. I found that the large lungs put the buttons about where I would expect the Medium lungs to put them on the classic. There are extra large lungs available but I think I would stick with the large.

The Evo is great but it suffers from the dedicated cylinders problem of the classic. Unlike the lovely Meg. That looked a stunning bit of kit. Unfortunately Stu couldn’t get his sorry ass out of bead so I ran out of play time to dive it

Dependent of the weight of the unit ready to travel the Meg could be the answer for my diving. I travel a lot and weight is critical. The Evo is brilliant but it’s going to take a while for the dive centres to get hold of those little cylinders.
