At the risk of going off-subject (and if so feel free to drop this into another thread) ....actually I think that the onboard diluent cylinder size might be more significant on long shallower dives.... because these are the ones where you may be less inclined to carry off-board bail-out/diluent. While you should not be using significant amounts of diluent on a nice square profile dive unless you are doing a load of drills with dil flushes and bailing off and back onto the loop, if you are in the 15 - 25m range the it is possible to burn through diluent if you are, for instance, drifting along on an undulating bottom and having to make adjustments to your loop volume.
On my Mod 1 course, the two Evo users found it was pretty tight at the end of a hour long dive - with a number of drills - to perform an open circuit bail-out ascent from 20m using the 2 litre on-board diluent cylinder. Admittedly they had also shot DSMBs using their Air IIs (whereas I used my Buddy DSMB with mini bottle).
Dunno if its been done already but might make an interesting subject of a survey to see what kind of dives people will do without carrying off-board bailout.
Very conscious of my "amateur" status so happy to receive contructive critisism!!
