Re: BOV and DPV diving

Jeff,

Howard and I did a dive the other day in a pretty stiff current. I had to abort my dive for scooter reasons, but I thought I'd let you know how the BOV and scooter worked together. The boat's GPS was registering a 1.6 to 1.9 knot north current with just a slight easterly crosswind. With the Submerge set to prop position 9, the highest, there was incredible flow over my gear. The Drager mask held the BOV in place with no problems what so ever, and there is no jaw fatigue since the five point mask harness distributes the force. Howard was diving his Optima with the BOV mouth piece and half mask.

I have dived the BOV without the mask, but not with the scooter. I found the BOV to create jaw fatigue only when swimming against strong currents, and not noticeable in standard conditions. Unfortuneatly, the BOV is really needed in the heavy conditions, and therefore, I have decided to stick with the FFM whenever possible.

You may want to talk directly with Howard (Scubadadmiami) and Marc (MarcLaukien) about their use of the Optima with the Golem BOV while scootering. They both have or had the same setup and scooter. As a matter of fact, Marc (now diving a HHCCR) and I are planning to do a scooter dive tomorrow. You are more than welcome to join us!

If you want to try the FFM in the pool, let me know.

Eric
