Excellent point!

Another is that schedules for new products are hard to keep and even make in the first place. Probably for the same reason, too.

So if you announce or publish prototype info/photos for example it becomes a two sided sword:
Great that people get news and their intrest is aroused, but not so great if they get disapointed waiting for more or upset they have to wait. Aside from the more people contacting the manufacturer about info, schedules, prices etc, all of which increase the workload.
