| Re: Shaving some weight off the Meg??? I use the Cave Meg (mid-sized canister with std scrubber). For wetsuit diving, I can drop the SS backplate and go aluminum and save 4 lbs. This puts the whole rig with 2 ltr steels at @ 60 lbs.
I don't see a whole lot of advantage in going with aluminum 13's unless you're trying to fix bouyancy. The weight difference is very negligible. If you are using 3 liters, they are way over kill for recreational diving. I would drop to the 2 liters. This shaves a few pounds total.
As for dropping to a Mini Meg canister and scrubber, that is probably the biggest reduction in weight but you'll need to put it back on your belt. Kitting up a Mini Meg on a rolling boat seems like a sucky propisition at best.
The difference between my buddies standard meg equipped with 3 ltr bottles and a stainless plate and my cave meg with 2 ltrs and a stainless plate is just over 10 lbs.
