Nigelh may be right, but I surely didn't want to oversell Mark 1!
The gas mix in the bucket will very quickly turn hypoxic if you keep breathing it.

Evolution Simulator,
the loop on a CCR will be hypoxic in less than a minute if the O2 (or controller) is turned off.
Depending on the size of the bucket (and your head), the Mark 1 may out-perform other rebreathers,
but that comparison is surely outside the intended scope of my article.
I will keep the original wording, even if someone believe it will sustain life for longer.
Please, do not risk your lives proving me wrong!
