Both hydraulic and you can see the spine ladder roped across the back in one. In a rough sea they make a lot of difference to the recovery. None of this lark of clipping off the stages to a line so they can be hauled up separately just grab the frame, brace yourself against the waves and when you look up he hits the switch. Waddle off and sit down with people grabbing for your hands.
When we had to do a diver recovery they set it higher, we sat him on, they winched him up grabbed his rig and just dragged him backwards into the boat. We weren't having to do AV as he was conscious but it was less than thirty seconds from when we let go to when he was in their hands.
