Hi Dave and all,
I decided to buy a smal lathe after visiting your wes page about the tube oxymeter houssings
I boutgth a small chinese lathe that I put on my bench and started learning how to turn parts, it took me 3 months not to master it but to start doing acceptable parts and found out that it was a fantastic tool for the Rebreather home builders.
it is really cheap and use full and it is far better to spend the necessary time to learn it to make proper work then simply use pvc tube and gluing them together to try to make Rebreather parts.
I think a sub forum could be the place to share our experience and to move forward quicker toward our goals the doing every thing alone wasting time and delrin .
just and example, I am making a sensor holder, I went to a tought time finding a small quantity od plastic to turn the cape...it took me 3 weeks 20 ails to plastic dealer to find out that the size of delrin cylinder I need could only be purchased in by 2 meters long parts....too expensive...
One week ago I took an empty can on soup and poured polyuréthane résin in it... the day after I put it on the late, machine the plastic blo I had made and finished the work fo 15 dollars instead of mutch more and without having to wait 2 weeks to get the derin by post , and for a simple cape that did not required an very resistant plastic it was enough quick cheap ans far enough to make what I need.
it is just an example but those ideas could easily be shared in a dedicated place.
this is the reason why I dared to suggest to create a sub forum; but only if a part of us is interrested otherwise it woud not be wise.
as I was saying I could start buy publishing photos of my ridiculous lathe and of the work I am doing at the time making oxymeters and sensor holders.
regards

I'd second the motion for a subforum. The forum will attract interest, rather than just seeing what happens in the normal forum. Machine Shop operations are a huge part of homebuilding, and in the end becomes a hobby in itself. This is an important subject for us. When we were on the NWD list, it became important enough that I ended up getting a Sherline miniature machine tools dealership simply to assist others in getting discount machine tools. I think just from that smaller list that we ended up selling two dozen lathes and mills. The interest is there, even if it seems latent.
