Re: Would an integrated O2 tank pressure monitor be safer?

Dosent a PP02 alarm do the same thing?

Mark, If your doing a deep or long cave dive and have a small O2 leak you can lose all your small O2 supply quite quickly. Usually the bail O2 is staged so you dont have back up. You can end up in a situation where you dont have enough O2 to maintain setpoint and get back to 6m and complete deco. [yes opf course you can run semiclosed and you can even bail to OC - but I dont want to, it adds risk and adds stress and is less comfortable on a long dive. So yes I think O2 sensor is very important - in fact Id say more important than a dil sensor seeing as you can plug in bail gas for dil (and so you have much more dil gas available than O2). If you use ppo2 drop to indicate your losing O2 it wont do you much good as you would have already lost it all by time poo2 drops lol!

Boris/sentinel will alert you if your O2 or dil consumption rate is abnormally high (ie you have a leak somewhere. this is also useful as part of predive tests uses accurate digital gas pressure displays to see if theres the slightest leak) and it will alert you when you are down to 50bar

I hate spgs on rbs - I took mine off my inspiration and off my MK15.5. Losing nearly all my O2 sub 150m in a cave due to a small o-ring leak before I realised and had a very unconfortable (from stress perspective) ascent and deco not knowing if my O2 was going to run out any min and having to pick up and carry/switch each staged bail tank (to get access to higher FO2) during ascent - taught me that knowing your contents just makes sense. I put them back on the MK15.5 but tucked them out the way. Now on Boris I love the digital pressure sensors as there is no down side (no danglies) and it works great. It just helps reduce the stress of not knowing - when you have doubt and the excessive usage alarm is a very nice feature to have too.

I dont know what sensor boris/sentinel uses but so far its been 100% reliable and I know kevin denlay has been using digital gauges for yonks on his MK15.5 too with AFAIK no problems so not sure I buy the reliebility concerns.
