That is not the right attitude i think. Especially for Backup you want THE BEST.
If you switch that Thingy on it HAS TO PERFORM.
Just a general remark

I am in the middle of doing a test on several back up torches ranging from the MiniQ40 through the Photon and Heiser LED units the Innobeem, Solus and on up to the Barbolite three LED costing £220
I find it odd that we consider £100+ for a back up light to be a lot of money when we are spending £700-£900 on a primary light.
Personally having had to go to my standard Photon Torpedo inside the Empire Heritage I immediately rushed home and bought the most powerful back up torch i could find. Te cost of the lost opportunity of a good dive on the EH was way above the cost of the torch IMHO
Again in caves I felt I didn't need or want to have to resort to a pencil torch having had the primary fail. My backup torch was more powerful than the primary used by our instructors.
Which was just fine by me.
When I did some penitration dives on the Zenobia i remeber switching off my primary and seeing how i got on with my miniQ40 back up. Having had a go I wasent keen on the idea of having to use it in an emergancy.
QED i find them mindset of divers choosing sub £50 pencle torches odd. If it works for you then fine but i still find it odd.
