As Brent says newly cut hose can be very tight to get the fitting onto .I cheat because I put a tiny amount of O2 grease on the thread of the fitting before I screw it into the hose (remember it is reverse thread ) Have done this on all my hoses & in 2 years I have not had one leak yet .HTH
