The check valve is there to not let in the whole ocean. Stay away from wet mating. If necessary due to loss of gas etc, consider it an emergency step and clean your stuff after.

Could not agree more. Less water is better, and the Parkers are best of breed, but preventative maintenance after a wet-mate in salt water is definately something to consider. The more complex the downstream component, the more desirable it is to do a cleaning.
