Filtering:

When running my Jetsam from the DeWalt, I have a combination filter/water separator that is between the compressor and the booster. I bought the filter/separator at the same store where I bought the DeWalt. It's intended to filter the air when a compressor is used for spray painting so is not anything fancy. It has a clear bowl and a drain valve on the bottom of the bowl to eliminate water. I think the filter is supposed to be 10 microns. I have never needed to drain any water, or seen any contaminates, but it is reassuring to have it.

Also mounted after the filter/separator is a filter/desiccant cartridge. In hind sight I think this is unnecessary. The desiccant changes color when exposed to moisture and it undergoes a full change after only a couple of boosting sessions. I keep it only because it provides a second filter that is easier to inspect when I change it. It was purchased at an auto supply store and its intended use is for painting also. I found a fitting at a hardware store that allows a drysuit hose to be connected to the desiccant cartridge. The Jetsam comes with a drysuit fitting to connect to the drive gas.

The DeWalt's tank spits condensation when I drain it at the end of a boosting session. I drain it every time. The supply hose I use with the DeWalt is only used for the booster. I have no idea what's in the other air hoses around the shop. I bought steel connection fittings for the compressor hose - that was a mistake. Buy brass. The steel ones corrode and since I don't want to use any oil it is a pain to keep them working.

Fixed to the outlet side of the separator, before the desiccant, is a ball valve that I use to regulate the flow to the booster. When the pressure differential between the donor cylinder and the recipient cylinder is low the booster fills too fast. The ball valve does a good job of regulating the flow of drive air into the booster.

I do not filter the air from my donor Nitrox SCUBA cylinders. I get O2 clean air from my local dive shop. They have hyperfiltered air that they use for partial pressure blending. It would probably be a good idea to filter regular SCUBA air but keep in mind that this type of filter will be expensive to buy and maintain.
