I was just running with a water trap on mine, but recently decided to buy an additional filter as "insurance". The additional filter is one of those inexpensive ones designed to be used just before a paint sprayer - probably some form of filter paper or synthetic material in a plastic housing. I put quick-connects on both the filters and my fill line so I can put it together / take it apart for storage.
