So, a hypothetical question...

Is it better to tell the diving community about the theft and risk the items being "too hot", and dumped in a ditch somewhere, or to keep the theft quiet and watch for someone trying to sell them?

That depends on how many thieving scum bags read Rebreather World and other forums with the info on.
If its gets dumped at least no one else gets stung, if no one knows ow will anyone know to look out for it.

Personally i think we should always shout about stolen kit so ' it's so hot it gets dumped' then people will get the idea there is no money in nicking it in the first place.
I dont belive that people would knowingly buy this kit but if we all keep checking then if it does turn up it can be traced back.

Is there a list / directory of stolen kit anywhere that the public/shops/boats/ test centres can compare against when any kit turns up?
ie in 9 months time a 3lt dumpy turns up for test (which it will) they run the serial number and find its previously been nicked?
or i'm about to buy one off ebay and can run the number myself?
