I consider myself to be just A DIVER, OC and CC are simply tools which I use to achieve my PRIMARY OBJECTIVE. My PRIMARY OBJECTIVE is the same for EVERY DIVE, to get myself back to the surface ALIVE AND FIT enough to do the next dive.
I just caught up with this thread because someone posted and bumped it back onto the recent posts list, as such I missed Carls post.
I just wanted to comment that the-
"we're crazy and stuck with an OC mindset" quote was not mine but belongs to one of my LDS owners, he was commenting on me getting some 7ltr tanks tested and was suggesting I didn't need that much bailout.
My own planning matches Carls- carry anything you need to get back to the boat. IMHO the dive doesn't finish till the kit is dry in my shed and I'm still healthy! (and it started when I loaded the car)
I sympathise with Alpinism but its not for me.
