Several of the Nikon cameras can be converted for IR sensitivity and the D70 out of the box works quite well (I am told). The conversion removes the hot mirror filter from the CCD (CMOS) chip and is replaced with optic quality glass of the same thickness.
With all that said, I am wondering what would be seen since the IR is mostly temperature sensitive. Also, focusing could be tricky as the wavelengths of IR require some manual focus compensation.
There are a few lenses being made for specific camera bodies which are pre-tuned for that difference, allowing auto focus to work. They show up on Ebay every once in a while. Also, a fellow named Klaus on the Nikon Gear website sells them.
