Hmm. Lets see if I can help explain the reasoning behind our recommendations;
1 First of all you need to have lift enough to float you with a fully flooded loop at the surface, plus any stages and extra gear you might have clipped on. This usually equates to min. 40 LB, but pref. a bit more. Some manufacturers advertise CCR wings with 30 LB lift. That is great, but not with a flooded loop, unless you are in a dry suit with intact neck seal.
2 Low top volume. This is not so much to reduce top lift as the Pelagian is nicely balanced as it is and usually trims out ok with out any help from the wing. The reason is that the unit is very compact so it gets a bit crammed behind your head.
3 Short length. The lenght of the Pelagian X-plate is the same as a standard back plate. If you use a standard length wing, everytime you stand the unit on the boat deck the wing gets bent forward or end up under the tanks. Not great in the long run and with some bad luck you might crack a pull dump. Donut wings will also end up under the scrubber.
4 Inflator placement. The elbow should sit on the rear part. Not the front as it gets wedged between the wing and your back and it's harder to position the inflator. The position can be anywhere between the center to a few inch toward your left. Should not have any pull dump.
5 Dont pick a single tank wing. The inflatable area will be reduced as half of the wing will be sandwiched between the x-plate and your back plate. I tried a 30 LB Halcyon single tank donut one time and it was the only time I wished I had a snorkel!
The Diverite Trek wing is short and fit well, but could have a few more pounds lift. A bit top bulky, but you can restrict that with some bungee. Dont know about quality, but looks allright.
The Pelagian wing will take some time until it's finished but it will be about 50 LB lift, short, low top and quite wide. It will come as a single cell wing with option of adding another cell, dump and inflator as a DIY kit.
