The diaphragm replacement should not be a PITA.
1) unscrew regulator cover
2) remove old diaphragm
3) drop in new diaphragm
4) screw in regulator cover
That's replacing the whole diaphragm assembly

You can apparently just replace the rubber? diaphragm keeping all the other plastic parts. That's what looks like a PITA and probably more effort than it's worth
