One technique I suggest you don't try is one I saw have rather unfortunate results. One individual put ankle weights attached to the shoulder D-rings and had them placed inside the pockets behind the CLs. This got into such a position as to prevent the ADV from bottoming out and was even making it difficult to manually operate it. He was a student in training and reacted to the reduced CL volume by shallow breathing which resulted in a mild CO2 hit. Those of us who choose not to use a BOV rely heavily on the ADVs ability to deliver lots of gas when needed.
