Using a wide piece of alum, as you are, might help with attaching smaller diameter tanks.

With my Faber steel 19s/3Ls, which only have a 3.9 inch/9.9 cm diameter, I find that both my Scubapro and DiveRite cam cleats just don't work - they are designed to work with larger diameter tanks. It appears that most cam cleats I can find on the internet are set up for 5.5" min diameter tanks.

Adding length to the straps, by using a broader canister attachment strip, as you have, might just be the trick I need to attach my smaller tanks.

BTW, what type of cam cleats/buckles are you using?
